By the time the 2000 Lee Rebels reached the playoffs, they had already spent much of the spring living on the edge. They were tired. They had survived a crowded district race, extra games and a schedule that refused to cooperate.

There are seasons that seem to follow a script. The 2000 Midland Lee Rebels were not having one of them.

Long before the field carried Ernie Johnson's name, before decades of Rebel Baseball history had been written, and before anyone could have known what the program would eventually become, there was the spring of 1964.
